Writing Support

A lot of time, energy, thought, and trial and error are needed to craft a good piece of writing, especially if you're writing in a language that is not your native language.

Whether you need support for a specific writing project or with navigating the writing process in general, or you're interested in being more aware of your current strengths and weaknesses and advice on improving your writing and confidence, I can help.

I offer workshops to groups on a wide range of topics related to writing effectively in English. Examples include:

- Analyzing and Improving Your Writing Process

- Effective Signposting

- Guide to Effective Revision: Process and Resources

- How to Use Online Linguistic Resources Effectively

- Pitfalls for Spanish Speakers Writing in English

- Writing Effective Professional Biographies

I can also custom-design a workshop to fit your specific needs. Please contact me so we can set something up.

I'm in the process of developing structured writing retreats starting in 2019 for those who would like to have an extended period of time (usually 2-3 days) in a supportive environment that eliminates distractions and gives primacy to your writing. Retreats can be residential (away from home) or non-residential (at home), and they can be for any type of writing project. Alternatively, I can run non-residential structured writing retreats for your department or institution. For more information or enquires, please contact me.

If you'd like to have a better understanding of your current strengths and weaknesses of your writing in English, I analyze two or three pieces of recent writing that have not been professionally proofread or edited, and then I provide you with detailed feedback and a tailored list of recommendations for improving your written English.

I can help you improve your writing in English with a customized short-term coaching program that takes into account your context, needs, and current strengths and weaknesses when writing in English. This can be done on a one-to-one basis or as a workshop.

I work in tandem with voice and communication coach Madeleine Cannon to help you effectively prepare and deliver oral presentations in English for conferences, PhD defenses, project meetings, etc. My role is to help you perfect the presentation’s script and accompanying text/visual materials, while Madeleine gives you the tools you need to deliver your ideas in English with clarity and confidence.

"I have worked in tandem, as a voice coach, with Wendy on a number of presentations. Her combination of linguistic knowledge and ability to engage with people results in their finding a clear, meaningful expression of their content within a strong structure, which they can then deliver effectively. I strongly recommend her and her work." —Madeleine Cannon, voice and communication coach
