THE STRUCTURE
My retreats are based on the structured writing retreat model developed by Rowena Murray, adapted to the online context. Ample, focused writing time is supported by movement and meal breaks and opportunities to discuss your writing practice and progress with the community of writers.

My job as facilitator is to create and hold this safe and supportive environment so you can make measurable, satisfactory progress on your writing project.

To protect our bodies during our days of intensive, intentional focus, we don't sit for more than 90 minutes at a time. During the recovery and refueling breaks between the writing and reflecting sessions, I strongly encourage you to leave your desk and engage in whatever form of physical movement suits you.

Research shows that structured writing sessions
-
provide dedicated time and space for writing by encouraging participants to intentionally and purposefully disengaging from other tasks
-
create accountability by asking writers to share and assess their goals
-
create a sense of connectedness among writers, making them a safe space to discuss writing challenges
-
promote writer wellbeing by alleviating feelings of isolation and building in breaks for healthy eating and physical movement
